Out of brazen idealism, of course we want to hold on to this vision of creating opportunities in remote communities through the introduction of tourism economy, however the instability in the nation force us to reconsider strategies for economy & opportunity creation. We have built deep friendships and allegiances with communities over our years working in Shan State, but currently there is no way to safely work or engage in these places. For this reason, we’ve decided to formally make a shift as Myanmar Adventure Outfitters. Our office is now moved from Northern Shan to Kalaw in Southern Shan State. This month we have also made the difficult decision to sell Myanmar Adventure Outfitters on to someone who has vision for a future in Kalaw. Announcement pending…

We believe there is a future for these communities we leave behind, and are both advocates for them and actively looking for ways to engage them from a distance, however difficult that may currently be. It’s been our joy and privilege to serve these people and communities, to see hope grow, for change to take root, and to dream together with staff and with communities. We’ve loved intensely and have lost much, both in lost loved ones from the MAO family and community partners, but also vision and unrealized potential. We hold Shan State and its people in our hearts, and should the future be conducive to adventure guiding in the future, we will be back for another attempt!
